Welding Controls Technician
This position will lead plant activities in regards to welding implementation from both a new product development and sustaining standpoint along with providing plant engineering / controls builds support in the integration, calibration, design, and testing of PLC-based control systems. Also provides advanced technical, analytical, problem solving and validation support to welding process/components & electrical/automated systems throughout the manufacturing plant.
Responsibilities
- Investigate welding related products/processes to improve product design and increase productivity
- Troubleshoot welding issues and provide root cause analysis and counter measure / corrective actions
- Develop standards, materials, weld joint design and welding processes
- Design welded parts, assemblies and fixturing as well as specify capital equipment / software needs to support welding operation
- Repairs welding equipment as needed when applicable
- PLC Programming (Ladder Logic) on a variety of platforms- Allen Bradley, Automation Direct / Koyo Processors
- Interprets electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, blueprints and layouts
- Performs system evaluations and automation system programming support for all plant manufacturing operations
- Performs root-cause analysis, troubleshoot, repair and maintain mechanical and electrical equipment. May also include networked and complex integrated systems
- Support upgrading of existing equipment and integration of existing equipment and new automation
- Project Management / tracking of both internal and external new/update machine builds
- Ability to work effectively as a member of the engineering team

- Reviews and modifies existing equipment as required to meet safety and ergonomic requirements
- Reports unsafe conditions and injuries to the immediate supervisor
- Refrains from any unsafe act that might endanger themselves or a co-worker
- Uses all safety devices provided for protection and complies with existing policies
- Works according to good safety practices as posted, instructed and discussed
- Adhere to all ISO 14001/TS 16949 requirements and safety regulations
Qualifications
- Knowledge of AutoCAD / AutoCAD Electrical software preferred
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or successful completion of trade school program preferred
- Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Project and PowerPoint
- 1-2 years engineering training or experience required
- Ability to accurately interpret programming code (both welding software and PLC)
- Ability to read and interpret: electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, blueprints and layout
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team depending on project needs
- Demonstrated excellent welding and electro/mechanical aptitude
- Demonstrated excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Ability to perform root cause analysis, troubleshoot, repair and maintain welding and other electro/mechanical equipment
- Ability to handle conflicting deadlines and breaks in routine
