Position Summary

Under supervision of the Police Chief, the Social Worker provides social services and support assistance, acting as a liaison between residents in crisis or in need and various resources/community groups at the local, state, or federal levels. The Social Worker provides crisis intervention, conflict resolution, short-term counseling, case management, and community outreach services. This position is also responsible for working with the Police Department, Fire Department, and other various departments across the City to assist where social services are needed for better outcomes including, but not limited to, family or neighbor disputes, mental health, substance use, home and health care, and housing related issues.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, or related field is required; Master’s Degree is highly preferred
  • State of Michigan credentialing (LMSW, LLMSW, LLPC, LPC, LLP, FLP, etc.)
  • Minimum of three years’ experience working with persons who suffer from Substance Use Disorders (SUD) and mental illness; or one academic year of graduate practicum/internship experience working with person with SUD and mental illness
  • Ability to implement community program & initiatives while working collaboratively with multiple community organizations and department stakeholders
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours and be available for critical incident call-ins 24/7
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, customer service skills, and organizational skills
  • Must be able to complete extensive documentation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and excellent computer skills
  • Minimum of one year experience with clinical diagnostic assessment and evaluation of adults and children experiencing behavioral health crisis, crisis intervention, grief counseling, and determining hospital eligibility is highly preferred
